It’s been a productive week. Students have been working hard to achieve the five jobs a day goal. Many have exceeded this goal. It is inspiring to watch the level of work carried out at times. The future is bright in Classroom 1.
Lessons this week included a review or introduction of the commutative and associative properties of addition, estimating pints, quarts, and gallons, continued work with ordinal numbers, and money word problems. We continue to work each week on memorizing addition and/or multiplication math facts, dynamic addition, and multiplication problems, and of course in-depth studies on parts of speech. In addition, each work plan includes reading a book and taking an accelerated reading test on the computer. The books may be read at home and the test taken the day the book comes back. Scholastic News is also done each week either in a group or individually. Scholastic News may also be done at home.
Excitement is building in the room for our Valentine’s celebration next Tuesday. We planned several special activities for the day. We have been reading the book, The Secret Garden, for the last month and plan on finishing it the day before Valentine’s Day. As a fun follow up, we are going to watch the Secret Garden movie for the last hour on Valentine’s Day. We are sending permission slips home for your child to watch the movie. Please return as soon as possible.
